Description
The Redline is Wolf’s most advanced level bassoon that plays with a richness and complexity of sound, normally expected from instruments that are significantly more expensive. Wolf’s LT versions of its range use proprietary technology to reduce the weight of their instruments by almost 50%.
Main product description
The Redline is made from premium specially selected mountain maple that has been matured over many years, finished with a hand buffed high luster varnish. The wood has been treated with a special immersing process, which allows for improved resonance. All the finger holes have ebonite liners that extend into the bore. The body is fabricated using CNC equipment, designed for maximum precision and consistency in the production process.
There has been a trend for woodwind instruments to use increasingly complex key work to expand their capabilities. This has inevitably meant that instruments become ever more heavy. Wolf have created a proprietary ‘DPMA’ construction mechanism which has reduced the weight of their LT range of bassoons by almost 50%, in a way that is invisible to the eye.
The bassoon possesses several unique features from the S2000 line, including nickel silver-water tubes, a RH Eb trill key, several additional rollers, and a specially designed bell ring that gives the instrument its name.
The flat springs, axles and pointed screws are all made of stainless steel for maximum longevity and value. The key work is silver-plated to protect the ever increasing number of people with nickel allergies. All the keys without long rods are fitted with a system patented by Wolf to ensure that there will be no rattling, even if keys become misaligned.
Howarth supplies all Wolf bassoons with a ‘lupobag’ gig bag, with a removable pouch for sheet music, a Kölbl sling and silk pull-throughs, cork grease, reed box and two silver-plated nickel crooks, lengths 2 and 3.

About maker
Guntram Wolf is a manufacturer of modern and historical woodwind instruments in Kronach, Germany. In the mid-80’s, the company started to develop smaller and lighter instruments tailored to the needs of smaller children, achieving great success with the Fagottini. The company also developed along with Benedikt Eppelsheim the Contraforte, an interesting equivalent to the contrabassoon which allows greater control over intonation and dynamics. After Guntram himself passed away in 2013, his children Peter and Claudia Wolf took over the management of the company.
